Parent Induction Evening 2021
CHS South Transition 2021
Year 6 students and families, thank you so much to those of you that have accepted places with us. We would like to welcome you to our CHS South Family. This is a very exciting time for you to join us as we move into our brand new school building. There will be plenty of opportunities coming up before July for you to take part in after school activities, meet some of your new teachers, make new friends and start to gain an understanding of what life is like at CHS South. Please have a look at our Social media accounts @chssouthmcr to have a look at how we have been ensuring that our students are creative, happy & successful young people.
We are very excited for September and for meeting you all very soon.
Please see the brochure below, for the latest information regarding our new school building:
New Beginnings Programme
Year 7 buddies are an important part of the transition process and will be involved in the majority of the transition activities that take place, including virtual talks with primary school students, enrichment activities and induction day. We feel that it is incredibly important that students have a few familiar faces that they recognise throughout transition and on their first day in September. We will be arranging activities specifically for students that are the only student or pair of students joining us from a particular Primary school so that we can support them to make new friends.
The Transition process continues into Year 7. In September, the students follow a Transition Curriculum developed with our Partner Primary Schools. This encourages students to transfer valuable skills from Year 6 to Year 7 through their work. Our exciting ‘Year 7 Framework for Learning’ is linked with extended learning experiences building valuable social skills and personal learning skills. For parents and carers there is also a parent, carer and tutor evening in the first half term so that parents and cares can be welcomed into the school community and meet their child’s form tutor and some key staff.
Partnership with Parents
As a school, we maintain high levels of contact with parents. Members of staff will often write to parents, contact them by telephone or invite them in to discuss issues of importance about their child’s welfare and progress. Likewise, we encourage parents to contact us if they have any concerns they would like to discuss. There are calendared Parents’ Evenings throughout the school year where parents can speak to their child’s subject teachers. We also arrange a number of opportunities for parents to engage with school such as a Parent Digital Safety session, a Macmillan Coffee morning a Christmas Quiz and host of school performances that show case the talents of our students.
