Celebrating Culture: Afro Haircare Workshop Inspires Confidence and Pride
24th Oct 2025

As part of our Black History Month enrichment, students at CHS South took part in a fantastic Afro Haircare Workshop, celebrating culture, confidence and community.

Led by professional haircare consultants, the session explored how to care for and style textured hair while promoting self-expression and pride in cultural identity. Students learned about different products, maintenance routines and styling techniques, with hands-on demonstrations and practical advice.

A special highlight was the involvement of our talented Year 10 helpers, who showcased their edge styling and braiding skills, sharing knowledge and creativity with peers across the school.

“It was incredible to see students take such pride in sharing and learning about Afro hair.”

The event was a huge success thanks to the enthusiasm of both students and staff. A huge thank you to everyone who helped plan and support the workshop, and especially to Ms Kaur and Mr McGill, whose dedication to celebrating diversity continues to inspire our community.

As Black History Month continued, our assemblies explored the theme “Standing Firm in Power and Pride”, reminding us all to celebrate who we are and stand strong in our shared values of respect, inclusivity and identity.

“Workshops like this remind us how important it is to create spaces where culture and identity are celebrated openly and confidently.”
