Introduction

English at CHS South allows students to immerse themselves in a rich world of stories, voices, and ideas. From exploring powerful literature to developing their own voice in writing and speech, our students are encouraged to think critically, express creatively, and engage with the world around them.

Our Intent

Our mission is to inspire, challenge, and nurture students to become confident, articulate, and thoughtful communicators.

The English Department aims to:

  • Ignite a passion for reading, writing, and exploring language.

  • Provide students with the tools to analyse, interpret, and appreciate the writer’s craft.

  • Encourage creativity and self-expression through exploratory talk and imaginative writing.

  • Build resilience and independence in approaching challenging texts and ideas.

  • Broaden cultural awareness and deepen understanding of the world.

  • Prepare students with skills for success in the classroom, exams, and life beyond.
