More Than 400 Families Join Us for a Fantastic Open Evening at CHS South
CHS South was delighted to welcome more than 400 families through our doors for this year's Open Evening, giving prospective students and their families the opportunity to experience our vibrant school community first-hand.
The evening was filled with energy, excitement and discovery as visitors explored classrooms, met staff and students, and took part in a wide variety of interactive activities designed to bring learning to life. From colourful chemistry experiments and coding challenges to creative arts, live performances and sporting activities, every corner of the school showcased the opportunities available to our students.
Our Headteacher and Head Students welcomed families during presentations in the theatre, where they spoke about the school's commitment to ensuring every child succeeds both academically and personally.
"Open Evening is an opportunity to open our doors and share what makes CHS South such a special place to learn. It was fantastic to see so many families engaging with our students and staff, experiencing the ambition, creativity and sense of community that we are so proud of."
- Mr David Prophet, Headteacher
Throughout the evening, visitors experienced the breadth of our curriculum through hands-on activities and live demonstrations. In Science, families explored physics, chemistry and biology through exciting practical investigations. Mathematics challenged visitors with puzzles, games and problem-solving activities, while Computing encouraged guests to test their coding skills and explore technology in creative and unexpected ways.
The creative arts were particularly popular, with visitors enjoying live portrait drawing, collaborative mural making, light painting photography and opportunities to experience student talent through music, dance and drama performances.
"The atmosphere throughout the evening was incredible," said Mr O’Ranson, Curriculum Leader for Science. "You could really see young people becoming curious, asking questions and getting involved. It was wonderful to watch."
Student ambassadors played a key role in making the evening a success. Leading tours, supporting departments and answering questions from prospective families, they proudly demonstrated what it means to be part of the CHS South community.
"I loved showing families around the school and talking about my experiences. It's easy to talk positively about CHS South because there are so many opportunities available, and everyone is really supportive."

Visitors also enjoyed exploring subjects such as Geography, History, Modern Foreign Languages, Food Technology and Design & Technology, where they could sample international flavours, discover sustainable design projects and take part in a range of engaging challenges.
The school's extensive support network was another key talking point, with many families taking the opportunity to meet members of the SEND team and learn more about the pastoral care and guidance available to students throughout their secondary school journey.
Families were full of praise for the event and the warm welcome they received.
"We've been really impressed by everything we've seen this evening," said one visiting parent. "The staff are passionate, the students are confident and polite, and there's such a positive atmosphere around the school."
Another family commented:
"What stood out most was how proud the students are of their school. They spoke so honestly about their experiences and made us feel very welcome."
As the evening came to a close, the school was filled with smiles, conversation and excitement about the future.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and look forward to welcoming many of our visitors back to CHS South in the years ahead.
