Students at CHS South have made school history after the U16 Basketball Team secured a place in the National Cup quarterfinals following an impressive victory in the national play-offs.
The team hosted Trinity CE on home court in a high-energy match that drew a strong crowd of supporters from across the school. The atmosphere inside the sports hall helped drive the team to a 68–59 win, securing their progression to the next stage of the competition.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for the school. Since opening in 2018, CHS South had never progressed to the competitive rounds of a National Cup, making this the furthest any team has reached in national competition.
The game proved to be a real test of determination and teamwork, with the players showing great resilience throughout the match to maintain their lead and close out the victory.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team. They showed real resilience and composure throughout the game, especially under pressure. Reaching the quarterfinals is a fantastic achievement for the players and a great moment for CHS South sport.”
– Mr. Pugh, Teacher of PE
Staff and students who came along to support the team played a big role in creating a fantastic matchday atmosphere, which the players greatly appreciated.
With the quarterfinals now ahead, the team will be looking to continue their historic run in the competition.
