Diwali at CHS South: A Festival of Light, Learning and Togetherness
21st Oct 2025

This week, CHS South came alive with colour and celebration as students and staff marked Diwali, the Festival of Light, through a range of creative, cultural and reflective activities.

Throughout the day, students enjoyed a vibrant dance workshop, joined by staff members who weren’t afraid to show off their moves. The celebrations continued with henna art sessions at break and lunch, where students learned about the cultural meaning behind traditional designs.

A Diwali-themed lunch brought even more joy to the day, followed by an after-school lantern making workshop led by Mr McGill in the Art department, open to all staff and students. Many also took part in the celebration by wearing traditional dress, adding even more colour and brightness to our school community.

“It was wonderful to see so many students and staff coming together to celebrate and learn.”

In lessons, students explored the stories and significance behind Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas, deepening their understanding of these important celebrations.

The week also included a special trip to the Sri Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara, where students had the opportunity to learn first-hand about Sikh traditions, guided by Ms Mustafa.

These celebrations captured the true spirit of CHS South - a community that values diversity, respect and shared learning.

Events like Diwali remind us of the richness of our community and the power of shared experiences.”
