On Thursday 2nd October 2025, CHS South opened its doors to prospective students, parents and carers for our annual Open Evening. The night was a celebration of everything that makes our community so special: creative learning, a caring environment and a strong sense of belonging.
From the moment visitors arrived, they were greeted by our staff and student guides, who brought warmth and enthusiasm to every corner of the school. Families commented on the welcoming atmosphere, with one parent reflecting, “Literally every student there was so helpful and friendly and provided us with a lot of information regarding the school. We were blown away with the talent that was presented in the classroom, especially the Art classes.”
The evening was alive with activity across every department. Guests were invited to take part in exciting hands-on sessions, whether it was dramatic performances that transported audiences to another world, code breaking in Computing, trampoline challenges in PE or creative showcases in Art and Design. The energy and pride of our students shone through, as one family shared: “This school is our child’s first choice and after tonight we wholeheartedly agree and hope very much that she gets a place.”
In the Dining Hall, visitors explored a snapshot of the care and guidance available at CHS South. Families met our Transition and Safeguarding teams, and representatives from the Prosper Learning Trust were on hand to provide information about the wider family of schools we are proud to belong to. We were also joined by Manchester Libraries, Create Music and Odd Arts, who showcased the opportunities they bring to our students and community. A huge thank you to all of them for giving up their time to support our Open Evening and share their expertise. This commitment to wellbeing and support showed that our ethos of nurturing the whole child goes far beyond the classroom.
A highlight of the evening was the welcome presentation in the Theatre, where Headteacher Mr David Prophet, shared what makes CHS South such a unique place to learn.
“CHS South is more than just a school. It’s a community where young people are encouraged to dream big, work hard and discover who they are. We are proud of our students every day, and tonight they have once again shown why they are at the heart of everything we do.” – Mr David Prophet, Headteacher
Parents and carers were equally impressed by the dedication and confidence of our students. From performances in Drama to interactive demonstrations in classrooms, visitors spoke of the joy and enthusiasm that defined the evening. One student guide summed up the spirit of the night, saying “I love showing families around because it’s a chance to share what makes our school special. When I joined, I was nervous, but I’ve had so much support from teachers and friends. I think new students will feel the same welcome I did.”
As families left with goody bags in hand, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. From describing the Headteacher’s talk as “very welcoming” to highlighting the warmth and fun created by staff and students alike, visitors left with a clear picture of what it means to join the CHS South family.
We’d also like to thank James White Photography for capturing the evening so beautifully. Every photo perfectly reflects the warmth, energy and pride of our school community.
To everyone who joined us, thank you for making Open Evening 2025 such a memorable success. If you are considering applying, please remember the deadline for admissions is 5:00pm on Friday 31st October 2025. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of Creative, Happy, Successful students to our school.
