European Day of Languages at CHS South

European Day of Languages at CHS South
26th Sep 2025

On Friday 26th September, students and staff at CHS South embraced the annual European Day of Languages, a celebration of the incredible range of languages and cultures across Europe. The day was a fantastic opportunity to promote the importance of learning new languages, discovering cultural traditions, and highlighting the joy of communication.

The Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) team worked tirelessly to put together a series of activities that everyone could enjoy, with the headline event being our very own Great CHS South Bake Off. Inspired by the much-loved TV series, the competition challenged both students (Years 7–11) and staff to showcase their creativity and flair in the kitchen.

Bakes of all kinds were entered, from colourful cakes to beautifully decorated biscuits and mouth-watering buns. With such a high standard of entries, the judging panel of “famous” faces had the difficult job of tasting and scoring each creation before deciding on the all-important Star Bakers.

Alongside the fun of the competition, the event carried a serious purpose. Thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of our school community, we raised an impressive £189.10 for charity. Every contribution will go towards supporting the vital work the charity does, and we’re proud to be able to play a small part in making a difference.

The MFL team shared how delighted they were with the response: not only was the hall filled with delicious treats, but the event also sparked great conversations about the importance of language learning and cultural appreciation. It was wonderful to see so many students engaging in the day with enthusiasm, showing off their talents and supporting a good cause.

The winners of the Bake Off, and the much-anticipated Star Baker award, will be announced later this week, so keep an eye out for updates! A big well done to everyone who got involved, whether by baking, judging, or donating.

At CHS South, we are proud to celebrate events like European Day of Languages as part of our wider commitment to being Creative, Happy and Successful.
